Sit around little doggies, and let Mama Laulau tell you a little story about what she did on Saturday night…

Bwahaha, jk. I only did that for like, an hour. And then I went out.

My buddy Ryan from Longboard Living told me about this T DOT HIP HOP x Skate x Street Art showcase going on around the corner from my place and, being that I adore all of those things it was on.

It should be noted that this was the second legitimately cool event I was invited to at 627 Queen West within a span of 2 days (PLD‘s fashion exhibit was the first one).

And by cool, I don’t mean “open bar, branded hashtag, everybody gets a giftbag and a photobook wee!” type of cool (no offense, PR folk – you know I like those photo booths) – I mean actually cool. Wicked people doing smart, interesting things for the sake of culture and communitehhh. Creatures Creating, if you will — and you will, because it’s the name of the gallery at 627 Queen West. See What I did there?

Ryan [left] is one of such creators (you may remember him from this video I shot in the summer. One of the most fun I’ve ever produced because I got to chase around longboarders on my rollerblades with a camera, cheyaaaaah!)

Chris Burns [right] (aka Champstiles) is another one. I’ve seen his wood burning work on boards, but had no idea he did stuff like these CHAMP CHAINS. So good.

Ryan introduced me to this guy, Masta Myst, who gave me a sick T-shirt and one of his CDs (THANK YOU!)

Listen to a few of his tracks here. As he tells it to me, he is not a rapper but an artist. Whatever the genre, the music’s good. Real.

He skates well, too! Jeesh.

This kid is doing novel things, befitting of Kensington Market. Things like mentoring people with low self esteem through music production and charging others a fair (if not better than fair) price to come and record at his studio on 86.5 Nassau st. (20$! Seriously! Go see him!)

Plus, he had a sweet hat on. I’m all about hats with words under the bill right now.

Big ups to everybody I saw at Creatures Creating Saturday night — the Comeback Season Kids, all of the artists — especially this Flips guy. I didn’t meet him and can’t find a website (anybody?) but I was loving on this piece (and others):

Nice to see fun like this going on in my neighbourhood. I’m excited to see what’s next at 637 Queen. Facebook tells me it’s something called BOTOX – New art, new music, new FACES every week. Ha! I like that.

Now uh, speaking of street art, Hanksy is back and tackling Ted “Dancin”, Bill Cosby and Ryan Gosling. McGosling!

Ready for some more Linkitty goodness? Dang skippty you is.
